On top of that, there are a considerable number of trade schools and bootcamps that offer fast-track entry to many fields.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Nursing Degree Search has created its Best Value Nursing Doctor's Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. This report analyzed 23 schools in the Southwest Region to see which ones offered the best value doctor's degree programs for nursing students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Aspen University the best value school in the Southwest Region for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Aspen University is a private for-profit institution located in Denver, Arizona. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 25 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Aspen University graduate students pay an average of $4,357 in tuition and fees each year.
Since the graduate programs at Aspen University are primarily online, it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a small public school located in Alva, Oklahoma that handed out 8 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at NWOSU are $10,571 per year.
One thing to take note of is that NWOSU does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 90% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Texas Wesleyan University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list. Fort Worth, Texas is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 34 students in 2020-2021.
Texas Wesleyan graduate students pay an average of $21,243 in tuition and fees each year.

Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value doctor’s degree nursing programs. This fairly large public school is located in Corpus Christi, Texas, and it awarded 11 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Texas A&M Corpus Christi are $15,995 per year.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 86% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Texas Christian University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 83 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at TCU are $32,268 per year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at TCU. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 82% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

The University of Texas at Austin came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in Austin, Texas, the large public school awarded 31 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at UT Austin are $22,944 a year.
UT Austin does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 66% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, UT Austin is ranked #4 for overall quality in the Southwest Region .
Oklahoma City University landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value doctor’s degree nursing programs. Oklahoma City University is a small private not-for-profit school located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that handed out 30 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at OCU are $13,410 per year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at OCU. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 12% took at least some of their classes online.
University of the Incarnate Word did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #10 on the list. New Mexico State University - Main Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #13 on the list. New Mexico State University - Main Campus is a fairly large public school located in Las Cruces, New Mexico that handed out 15 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at NMSU Main Campus are $18,275 per year.

With a ranking of #14, Abilene Christian University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Abilene Christian is a private not-for-profit institution located in Abilene, Texas. The school has a small population, and it awarded 19 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
