Our 2023 rankings named Johns Hopkins University the most popular school in Maryland for nursing students working on their master’s degree. Johns Hopkins University is a large private not-for-profit school located in Baltimore, Maryland that handed out 308 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Johns Hopkins does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 85% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means University of Maryland - Baltimore is a great place for nursing students working on their master’s degree. UMB is a medium-sized public school situated in Baltimore, Maryland. It awarded 171 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 84% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at UMB, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 46% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent master’s degree programs at Stevenson University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular nursing schools in Maryland. Located in Stevenson, Maryland, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 51 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 96% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at Stevenson are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
The excellent master’s degree programs at Notre Dame of Maryland University helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular nursing schools in Maryland. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Baltimore, Maryland, and it awarded 30 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 87% were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since NDMU does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 61% took at least some of their classes online.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Bowie State University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in Maryland list. Bowie State University is a medium-sized public school situated in Bowie, Maryland. It awarded 30 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Towson University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree nursing programs. This large public school is located in Towson, Maryland, and it awarded 7 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Morgan State University ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in Maryland list. Morgan State University is a medium-sized public school located in Baltimore, Maryland that handed out 3 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

One thing to take note of is that Morgan State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 40% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Washington Adventist University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list. Located in Takoma Park, Maryland, the very small private not-for-profit school awarded 2 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.

Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Washington Adventist University. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 95% took at least some of their classes online.
Coppin State University landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree nursing programs. This small public school is located in Baltimore, Maryland, and it awarded 2 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
