This report analyzed 118 schools in the Middle Atlantic Region to see which ones were the most popular master's degree programs for nursing students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Pennsylvania the most popular school in the Middle Atlantic Region for nursing students working on their master’s degree. UPenn is a large private not-for-profit school situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It awarded 382 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 90% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UPenn does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 74% took at least some of their classes online.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Drexel University is a great place for nursing students working on their master’s degree. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 335 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.

If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Drexel does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 85% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Stony Brook University. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list. SUNY Stony Brook is a public institution located in Stony Brook, New York. The school has a large population, and it awarded 311 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.

New York University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree nursing programs. NYU is located in New York, New York and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 180 master’s degrees to qualified students.

NYU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 79% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #9, University of Maryland - Baltimore did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the medium-sized public school handed out 171 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 84% were women.
One thing to take note of is that UMB does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 46% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #10, George Washington University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. George Washington University is a large private not-for-profit school located in Washington, District of Columbia that handed out 168 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 91% were women.
GWU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 37% took at least some of their classes online.
Pace University - New York did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #11 on the list. Located in New York, New York, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 130 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 92% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Pace University. In 2019-2020 about 76% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
LIU Post did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #12 on the list. LIU Post is located in Brookville, New York and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 121 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 85% were women.

D’Youville College landed the #13 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree nursing programs. D’Youville College is located in Buffalo, New York and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 120 master’s degrees to qualified students.

D’Youville College does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 88% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Wilmington University landed the #14 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree nursing programs. New Castle, Delaware is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 119 students in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #16, Molloy College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Rockville Centre, New York, and it awarded 105 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 90% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Molloy does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 97% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Lehman College came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking. Lehman is a fairly large public school situated in Bronx, New York. It awarded 103 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
