This report analyzed 10 schools in Michigan to see which ones were the most popular graduate certificate programs for nursing students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Michigan - Flint the most popular school in Michigan for nursing students working on their graduate certificate. Flint, Michigan is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out graduate certificates to 12 students in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 75% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UM Flint. In fact, around 90% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Grand Valley State University. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Graduate Certificate Schools in Michigan list. This large public school is located in Allendale, Michigan, and it awarded 65 graduate certificates in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 75% were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at GVSU. During the 2020-2021 year, about 42% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Wayne State University. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Graduate Certificate Schools in Michigan list. Wayne State University is a large public school located in Detroit, Michigan that handed out 206 graduate certificates in 2021-2022.

Graduate Certificate recipients from Madonna accumulate an average of $29,185 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 84% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Madonna. In fact, around 65% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
Out of the 10 schools in Michigan that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Detroit Mercy landed the # 3 spot on the list. Located in Detroit, Michigan, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 94 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2021-2022.
Graduate Certificate recipients from Detroit Mercy accumulate an average of $234,745 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 40% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at Detroit Mercy are primarily online school, so it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.
Oakland University ranked #6 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Graduate Certificate Schools in Michigan list. Oakland University is a fairly large public school located in Rochester Hills, Michigan that handed out 74 graduate certificates in 2021-2022.
Around 69% of those degree recipients were women.
Oakland does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 38% of graduates took at least one course online in 2020-2021.
Davenport University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate nursing programs. Davenport University is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It awarded 90 graduate certificates in 2021-2022.
By the time they get their graduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $185,569 in student loans. Of those students who received their degree, 69% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Davenport University. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 95% of graduates took at least one course online in 2020-2021.
Spring Arbor University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #7 on the list. Spring Arbor, Michigan is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out graduate certificates to 6 students in 2021-2022.
Around 100% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Spring Arbor does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 89% took at least some of their classes online.
Northern Michigan University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate nursing programs. Marquette, Michigan is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out graduate certificates to 3 students in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 67% were women.
Northern Michigan University does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 62% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
Eastern Michigan University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #7 on the list. Eastern Michigan is located in Ypsilanti, Michigan and has a fairly large student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 91 graduate certificates to qualified students.
By the time they get their graduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $37,624 in student loans. Around 70% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Eastern Michigan does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 75% of graduates took at least one course online in 2020-2021.
