This report analyzed 11 schools in Georgia to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for nursing students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Augusta University the most popular school in Georgia for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Augusta, Georgia, the medium-sized public school awarded 96 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 80% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Augusta University does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 49% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at South University’s online programs helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular nursing schools in Georgia. Located in Savannah, Georgia, the medium-sized private for-profit school handed out 45 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.
If you are interested in distance education, South University’s online programs is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Emory University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular nursing schools in Georgia. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 28 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Emory. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 74% took at least some of their classes online.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Georgia State University is a great place for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Atlanta, Georgia is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 16 students in 2020-2021.
Around 100% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Georgia State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 71% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Mercer University is a great place for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. This medium-sized private not-for-profit school is located in Macon, Georgia, and it awarded 13 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Mercer. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 46% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Georgia College & State University is a great place for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Milledgeville, Georgia, the medium-sized public school handed out 13 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 100% of those degree recipients were women.
Georgia College does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 96% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Georgia Southern University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Georgia ranking. GaSou is a large public school situated in Statesboro, Georgia. It awarded 12 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 92% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at GaSou. In fact, around 74% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
South University, Savannah did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #8 on the list. Savannah, Georgia is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 7 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.
South University, Savannah does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 13% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of North Georgia came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Georgia ranking. UNG is a fairly large public school situated in Dahlonega, Georgia. It awarded 5 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 80% were women.
UNG does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 66% took at least some of their classes online.
Brenau University landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree nursing programs. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Gainesville, Georgia, and it awarded 1 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.
Online graduate courses are available at Brenau, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 56% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Kennesaw State University ranked #11 on this year’s Most Popular Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Georgia list.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since KSU Georgia does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 88% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
