Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Our analysis found James Madison University to be the best value school for nursing students who want to pursue a master’s degree in Virginia. Located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the large public school awarded 27 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
JMU graduate students pay an average of $29,746 in tuition and fees each year.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since JMU does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 68% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
JMU did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our Best Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in Virginia list.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Radford University is a great place for nursing students working on their master’s degree who want the most bang for their educational buck. Radford, Virginia is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out master’s degrees to 16 students in 2020-2021.

Liberty University graduate students pay an average of $8,360 in tuition and fees each year.
One thing to take note of is that Liberty University does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 97% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Bluefield College. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in Virginia list. Bluefield College is a very small private not-for-profit school located in Bluefield, Virginia that handed out 12 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Bluefield College are $9,234 a year.
Bluefield College does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 58% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.

In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, VCU is ranked #4 for overall quality in Virginia.
With a ranking of #7, Eastern Mennonite University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. Eastern Mennonite is a private not-for-profit institution located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The school has a small population, and it awarded 15 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Eastern Mennonite are $15,270 a year.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Eastern Mennonite. During the 2019-2020 year, about 82% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

With a ranking of #9, Mary Baldwin University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Staunton, Virginia, and it awarded 3 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Mary Baldwin graduate students pay an average of $13,170 in tuition and fees each year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Mary Baldwin. During the 2019-2020 year, about 51% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

Regent University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #15 on the list. Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 3 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Regent are $17,190 a year.
Regent does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 94% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
