Our analysis looked at 20 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region to see which master's degree programs offered the best value experiences for nursing students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Western Governors University the best value school in the Rocky Mountains Region for nursing students working on their master’s degree. This large private not-for-profit school is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it awarded 3,210 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
WGU graduate students pay an average of $7,790 in tuition and fees each year.
If you are interested in distance education, WGU is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.

The school came in at #3 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. Nampa, Idaho is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 45 students in 2020-2021.

Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at NNU. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 71% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Out of the 20 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that were part of this year’s value ranking, Westminster College Utah landed the # 4 spot on the list. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 49 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Westminster College Salt Lake are $16,689 per year.
One thing to take note of is that Westminster College Salt Lake does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 9% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

Colorado Mesa University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list. Colorado Mesa is a medium-sized public school situated in Grand Junction, Colorado. It awarded 1 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Colorado Mesa are $14,535 per year.
One thing to take note of is that Colorado Mesa does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 67% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
University of Colorado Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #10 on the list. CU Anschutz is located in Denver, Colorado and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 187 master’s degrees to qualified students.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at CU Anschutz are $24,342 a year.

Lakewood, Colorado is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 10 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at CCU are $14,626 a year.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at CCU. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 95% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
University of Northern Colorado did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for nursing students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #12 on the list. Located in Greeley, Colorado, the fairly large public school handed out 22 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #14, University of Utah did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their master’s degree. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the large public school handed out 25 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
U of U graduate students pay an average of $25,705 in tuition and fees each year.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at U of U. In fact, around 68% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
U of U did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #5 on our Best Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs came in at #15 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the large private for-profit school awarded 129 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs graduate students pay an average of $14,312 in tuition and fees each year.
Online graduate courses are available at Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 100% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs landed the #16 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree nursing programs. UCCS is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 62 master’s degrees to qualified students.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at UCCS are $25,584 a year.

Weber State University landed the #17 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree nursing programs. Weber State University is a large public school located in Ogden, Utah that handed out 26 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
