Our analysis looked at 17 schools in New Jersey to see which master's degree programs offered the best value experiences for nursing students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Fairleigh Dickinson University - Metropolitan Campus is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in Teaneck, New Jersey that handed out 51 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

TCNJ does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 99% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

Out of the 17 schools in New Jersey that were part of this year’s value ranking, William Paterson University of New Jersey landed the # 4 spot on the list. This medium-sized public school is located in Wayne, New Jersey, and it awarded 35 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Rowan are $16,146 a year.
One thing to take note of is that Rowan does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 36% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
College of Saint Elizabeth ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list. CSE is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Morristown, New Jersey. It awarded 20 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at CSE are $18,734 per year.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since CSE does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 49% took at least some of their classes online.

Kean University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking. This fairly large public school is located in Union, New Jersey, and it awarded 10 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Kean are $22,438 per year.
Kean does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 6% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Rutgers University - New Brunswick landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree nursing programs. Rutgers New Brunswick is a public institution located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The school has a large population, and it awarded 13 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Rutgers New Brunswick are $33,215 a year.

In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, Monmouth is ranked #5 for overall quality in New Jersey.
Seton Hall University came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Nursing Master’s Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking. South Orange, New Jersey is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 75 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Seton Hall are $26,018 a year.
