This report analyzed 7 schools in Connecticut to see which ones offered the best value doctor's degree programs for nursing students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our analysis found Central Connecticut State University to be the best value school for nursing students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in Connecticut. CCSU is located in New Britain, Connecticut and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 23 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
CCSU graduate students pay an average of $26,072 in tuition and fees each year.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at CCSU. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 95% took at least some of their classes online.

The school came in at #3 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Connecticut list. WestConn is a small public school situated in Danbury, Connecticut. It awarded 6 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at WestConn are $26,477 a year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at WestConn. In fact, around 92% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.

The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Connecticut list. Located in Hamden, Connecticut, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 88 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Quinnipiac are $20,340 a year.
One thing to take note of is that Quinnipiac does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 52% took at least some of their classes online.

Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 29 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Sacred Heart graduate students pay an average of $34,509 in tuition and fees each year.
One thing to take note of is that Sacred Heart does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 64% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

With a ranking of #6, University of Connecticut did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Storrs, Connecticut is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 18 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at UCONN are $42,237 a year.
One thing to take note of is that UCONN does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 74% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #7, Yale University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, the fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 19 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Yale are $45,700 a year.
Online graduate courses are available at Yale, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 98% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Yale did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our Best Nursing Doctor’s Degree Schools in Connecticut list.
