Our analysis looked at 23 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region to see which basic certificate programs offered the best educational experiences for nursing students. The factors used to develop this ranking include those related to how in-demand the school us, the overall quality of the school, and post-graduation wages, and more.

Our 2023 rankings named Red Rocks Community College the best school in the Rocky Mountains Region for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
In-state students pay an average of $4,389 in tuition and fees if they attend Red Rocks Community College full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,811.
Online courses are available at Red Rocks Community College, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 75% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Out of the 23 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Pikes Peak Community College landed the # 2 spot on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $3,981 in tuition and fees if they attend PPCC full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,403.
Some students may be able to take online classes at PPCC. In 2019-2020 about 47% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Lewis - Clark State College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best nursing schools in the Rocky Mountains Region .

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Utah State University. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
Full-time students from Utah pay an average of $8,960 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend USU. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $23,435.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at USU. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 77% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Colorado Northwestern Community College is a great place for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
In-state students pay an average of $4,140 in tuition and fees if they attend CNCC full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $6,596.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at CNCC. During the 2019-2020 year, about 25% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #6, Otero Junior College did quite well on this year’s best schools for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
Full-time students from Colorado pay an average of $4,107 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Otero JC. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $6,563.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Otero JC. In 2019-2020 about 28% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Morgan Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for nursing students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #7 on the list.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Morgan Community College is $3,852. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,274.
Online courses are available at Morgan Community College, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In fact, around 68% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Community College of Aurora ranked #8 on this year’s Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
In-state students pay an average of $3,947 in tuition and fees if they attend CCA full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,369.
CCA does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 25% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Colorado Mountain College landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate nursing programs.
Students from Colorado who attend Colorado Mountain College full time pay an average of $4,860 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $11,484.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Colorado Mountain College. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 33% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #10, Intellitec College - Grand Junction did quite well on this year’s best schools for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
With a ranking of #11, Idaho State University did quite well on this year’s best schools for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
Students from Idaho who attend ISU full time pay an average of $7,872 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $25,326.
ISU does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 61% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Front Range Community College ranked #12 on this year’s Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
In-state students pay an average of $4,032 in tuition and fees if they attend FRCC full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,454.
Online courses are available at FRCC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 38% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Trinidad State Junior College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for nursing students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #13 on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $4,176 in tuition and fees if they attend Trinidad State Junior College full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $6,631.
Trinidad State Junior College does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 17% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #14, Aims Community College did quite well on this year’s best schools for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
Full-time students from Colorado pay an average of $2,762 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Aims Community College. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $10,418.

Lamar Community College ranked #18 on this year’s Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at LCC is $4,136. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $6,592.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since LCC does offer online classes for certain majors. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 21% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Salt Lake Community College ranked #19 on this year’s Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Salt Lake Community College is $4,086. Out-of-state students pay an average of $12,734.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Salt Lake Community College. In 2019-2020 about 48% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Dixie State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for nursing students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #20 on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $5,862 in tuition and fees if they attend Dixie State College full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $16,986.
Dixie State College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 47% took at least some of their classes online.
With a ranking of #21, College of Southern Idaho did quite well on this year’s best schools for nursing students working on their basic certificate.
College of Southern Idaho does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 41% took at least some of their classes online.
Northwest College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for nursing students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #22 on the list.
In-state students pay an average of $4,862 in tuition and fees if they attend Northwest Community College full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $11,162.
One thing to take note of is that Northwest Community College does offer online classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 55% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
Community College of Denver came in at #23 in this year’s edition of the Best Nursing Basic Certificate Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking.
Full-time students from Colorado pay an average of $4,745 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend CCD. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $16,167.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since CCD does offer online classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 38% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
